Lip Sync issues (Sony!)

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded my TV, Soundbar and Blu-Ray player to the following:

Sony KD-49XE8004 (4k HDR etc)
Sony HT-XF9000 soundbar
Sony UBP-X700 blu-ray (4k)

I've connected the blu-ray to the soundbar, and the soundbar to the TV via ARC. Also connected to the TV is a Virgin V6 box and PS4 both via HDMI.

The blu ray is spot on and I have no issues with this, however I have lip-sync issues when watching TV. I've been messing around with the settings for the last 3 or 4 days and I've got it to a point where it's "ok" but not spot on.

I've tried adjusting the distance settings for the speakers on the soundbar, and also the av delay settings but they just seem to make things worse. There doesn't seem to be an av sync setting on the TV itself.

Other settings I have played with...TV set to output enhanced signal over HDMI. The Soundbar is also set to pass through enhanced signal. Changing these seem to make no difference and nor does switching to PCM (which kind of defeats the object of upgrading anyway)

Sorry for the long post, but I'm hoping someone can give me some tips, or is it a case of waiting on firmware updates for my kit etc?

Just a note on this may help, are you sure that the audio is ahead of the picture ? I have a Panasonic TV and Sonos soundbar connected directly to it. I set the telly up to my preference (basically turned off most the processing) and have issues with lip sync. Sometimes its hard to tell if the audio is ahead or behind the picture but there are many youtube videos which help identify whats going on. The problem (in my case) is that the sound is already behind the picture, ie already delayed, maybe as a results of turning off all the video post processing. So adding more delay, as is the only option with lip sync / audio settings does not help. I have read about this a lot especially on the Sonos forums. Lots of people there raising tickets with the telly manufacturer to try and force a firmware update to improve things, sometimes its fruitful other times not so.

Is the optical output from the v6 box any better? My old tivo box (not a v6, i know but ...) was terrible for audio lag over hdmi.

edit: oh, i've just looked back and the V+ box i had before the tivo was exactly the same as well. So yeah, definitely try the optical output.

@thebandit I'm convinced the audio is BEHIND the picture. Am going to try a couple more things tonight (like swapping inputs) to see if that helps.

I'm trying to avoid using optical at the moment as the whole point of upgrading to this soundbar was so I could use HDMI ARC and make use of all it's lovely audio processing!

At the moment my Blu Ray is connected to the soundbar which is connected to the TV via HDMI ARC. PS4 is on HDMI 2 and V6 is on HDMI 1. I might try swapping the V6 and PS4 as HDMI 2 is on of the "enhanced" ports.
