i never thought of this before - and it is probably a very stupid question.

i understand games that work with steam cannot be resold as you activate them to link them to your personal account.

however

can you use games software that has been activated before?

eg. i buy a 'games for windows' game off the bay - can i use it if it is used?

thanks for any advice

Yes, you'll able to install it, as for multiplayer many people will hang on to their CD-Key's and game install so thy can play online, you'd have to show the publisher a photo of the CD +Key to get a new one.

Unless ofcourse the game comes sealed, then you should have no problems.

just checking
i dont normally buy second hand pc games
all of what you guys mentioned seems too much hassle

perhaps the bay should get rid of used pc games on their listings all together - it is very misleading

Indeed, back when Quake 3 came out you could get people's CD-Key by looking at the ebay photo, was quite funny.

I only ever bought a second hand game once, the CD-Key was still in use online so have bought new from then on, the risk ain't not worth saving a few quid.
