Ok, bit of info on me. Ive just turned 23. I currently work in a call centre doing customer service stuff but i really want to get into IT.

I currently work in a call centre, but did start computer studies at uni but pulled out to go work as i had a family (fiancee and baby) to look after. I quickly got to know the guys in the IT dept, and have been told by the head of dept he will be able to give me a permanent position in the company by the end of the year, which was great news

once i get my first rung on the ladder, i guess i need to think about where i want to do. And you know what i dont really know. Im not a developer, me and programming dont get on. Im definitely more of a hardware person (3 PCs with a total of about 5k spent on them vouches for that !) so i guess support is gonna be my direction

but beyond the usual 1st/2nd line support im not sure what else there is. Apparently talking to the guys at work, its common for most departments to have an "infastructure" guy who looks after all the backend stuff and networks. This is i guess what id like to do

without specializing too much (eg exchange server admin,) what other roles are there out there ?

Well my title is Networks Systems Engineer. Basically installing and administrating SBS 2003, XP, 2000. Providing SES Support (Remotley, over the phone and on-site), Network Installs and support. You could be a field technician, which is basically my job minus the installs, or be a SES engineer, network designer. Try google for IT Jobs?

Trouble is there's so many

and companies are pigeon holing people into specific tasks creating more different roles.

i was wondering if there was any1 senior in IT here or something that could provide like a broad overview.

oh and as a side, which jobs will give company car allowance ? :D

Take two technical words and choose one of the following to suffix them with. Engineer, consultant, manager, specialist.

You have a job title!
