I am debating going the quad core route and wondered exactly how many programs (excluding Benchmarks and professional applications) can make use of a 4 cores?

Perhaps we can make a list of programs/apps showing where C2Q's > C2D's at the same clockrate.

I think to sum things up.

*There is little CURRENT reason for a C2D (or fast AM2) owner to upgrade to a C2Q due to very few apps using 4 cores.
*If you are buying a new system, or upgrading from a P4/AthlonXP and your CPU budget is between 150-200quid a Quad is probably the better long term solution.

Also, evryone is comparing the Q6600 to the E6850. The E6850 does seem overpriced in comparisson, but I think a farer scenario would be quad vs Q6750. The Q6750 will likely clock further than a quad and offer real savings that could go towards a better Mobo, GC or Ram.

Personally, I'm now going to stick with my E6550 running 3.3GHz @ 1.2v. As much as I would like to play with a quad, I know I will just be wasting my money.
