I've been trying to upgrade my PSU for a little while to something with more power & one that will be reliable.

Rather than keep asking you brilliant group of people if a certain one is suitable, has anyone ever compiled a list of Manufacturers or Models of PSU that are recommended & one's to avoid?

Cheers guys :)

Stick with:

Corsair
BeQuiet
XFX
Enermax
cooler master
Pc Power & Cooling
OCZ
Antec
Akasa
Seasonic
Silverstone Tek
Enermax
Thermaltake

Avoid:

Take a look at the PSU review link in my sig. There you will find the OEM for each of the branded PSUs in RJC's list, as well as where to find some reviews.

I once phoned my local pc shop what was the highest watt psu they had for sale, think it was 600 watt...went to have a look and they wanted £15. Not bad...shame it was a **** brand plain grey unit.

I once thought that high watts = gaming psu but its not like that.

I said no, explained to them it was for a gaming pc...I think the guy understood.

I would recommend anything from Corsair - They seem very reliable :)
I would second this. They're a little bit more expensive but you get what you pay for with PSUs IMO. The non-modular Corsair PSUs are just Seasonic kit, the modular ones are produced by CWT who also make decent PSUs.

Be quiet psu's have serve me well, got five of them, ranging from 500w to 850w, all must be four or five years old now.

Also have a lone 800w Gigabyte Odin GT or Pro psu, been superb, still going strong.

Some people say the HX and AX series have the "squealing" problem. So i'm thinking that i'll go with Be Quiet E9 580w. Does anyone have experience with these Psus or should i go with corsair :)
