It's time to get a new Mac, my >5 year old 24" iMac just isn't cutting it any more and is prone to freezing/crashing/just annoying me.

I can't decide whether to go for a 15" MBP, a 21.5" iMac or go all out on a 27" iMac.

The portability of the MBP would be nice but it's a lot more expensive than the iMac equivalent. I'm not sure I really need the 27" screen, so I'm leaning more towards the 21.5".

The current options are -

  • 21.5" iMac with 3.1ghz quad core i7, 16gb memory & 1tb Fusion - £1,564.80
  • 27" iMac with 3.2ghz quad core i5, 16gb memory & 1tb Fusion - £1,688.40
  • 15" MBP (retina display) with 2.0ghz quad core i7, 16gb memory & 512gb Flash - £1,783.20
I think my thread sounds like I'm leaning towards the 21.5". It's the cheapest and offers the best spec but then having the ability to be portable with the MBP is tempting too (despite the lower spec).

So I'm asking what do you guys think I should do? What would you do?

I fire up Logic every now and then, Photoshop is used a fair bit too. I like to play Sim City which is nigh on impossible on my current iMac too.
