A Visit To id Software Circa 1993

Words can not describe the awesomeness of the video John Romero posted on his blog yesterday. Essentially it's a video from the early Doom days (circa 1993) at id Software. You get a tour of the office and some behind the scenes interviews with some of the major players from Id at the time. There's some fabulously ancient talk about memory usage as well as some bad-ass MIDI tunes. Also... Aladdin on the Genesis is played

In 1993, Dan Linton, owner of a hugely successful BBS called Software Creations, visited Texas and made his way to id Software. This is the footage he recorded one night in November 1993.

Shown are several of id's employees at the time: Jay Wilbur, Shawn Green, John Romero, Dave Taylor, Sandy Petersen and Adrian Carmack, Bobby Prince was visiting to finish the music and create the sound effects.

This video has 21 minutes of me playing DOOM before the sound effects were put in as well as some early deathmatching with Shawn Green.

Gutted I can't view this at work. I'm glad someone else seems to like Giant Bomb as much as I do. Excellent site and I really like all the guys, the BombCast is fantastic.

I love the part where they are all crowded round to watch Aladdin being played. The look of amazement on their faces is priceless.

I loved Aladdin back in the day. Such a great platformer.

Wow, Great find.

Brings back some great memories of Doom and DOS! They are playing an early version of DOOM with the SNES sfx as they have not recorded the proper SFX. Also the game closes back to DOS due to it no being finished! Great stuff!

Loving the DOOM slow down as well! I wonder what the system specs were?

Fascinating to see Doom talked about when it was brand new, must have been exciting times, much more so than today :)

You don't think it was the most amazing video you've seen in your entire life?

Of course not. It's interesting and well worth watching but it's nowhere near the "amazing" rating.

You should put the single link back in your OP too as I much prefer watching that than the 3 youtube clips.
