Literally today, my computer has gone completely slow. It takes a long time to respond and load applications/games.

My restore points have seem to be deleted somehow, I have uninstalled AVG and Avast and installed Kaspersky and Microsoft Essentials.

I also ran Wiper on CCleaner to erase files from my system that have been deleted.

Is there any reason for the sudden change in performance?

I'm not, I only have Kaspersky running. Is there a way to restore my computer back to the default/original Windows 7 settings but keep my files on the hard drive?

Try testing your hard drive for errors using HD Tune or something similar. Could be that your hard drive is on its way out.

Also while you're at it, Run malware bytes as it may be a virus running that also deleted the restore points.

May or may not help, But theres no harm in trying.

My computer is clean of viruses, I've scanned it a few times today.

I've uninstalled Kaspersky for now and it's still sluggish.

Is there a way to restore my computer to default settings but keep my files?

I have about 800GB of files so that's going to be a pain.

Check what processes you have running, check that the HDD isn't constantly active and finally get a backup solution for those files just in case you need to wipe and reinstall - Surely you didn't think hard drives last forever - what would you have done if it had just gone BANG and died?

Personally I'd reset the CPU back to stock levels, test RAM and test HDD before doing anything else.

If you've lost the restore points then the only way is a reinstall. There is an option to keep your existing files though, It will move them to their own folder during the install.

I have everything backed up on a hard drive, it's just installing all those programs and sorting out everything again. But hopefully that's the last thing I'll need to do.

How do I check that the HDD isn't constantly active?

This would restore the system to the default Windows 7 settings right? would I need to activate my Windows again?

So I would just need to reinstall all the programs but my files (I have a lot of HD films and music) would be fine?

Can someone link me a guide on this please

All your files would be there in their own folder but it would be a fresh install so everything would be at default, including having to reactivate. But I would only use this as a last resort really, try to rectify the problem first.

I'm trying but I don't really know what else to check for, here is a list of the processes I have right now:

But when I open programs on my computer they white screen/take a long time to load.

Have you had a look at your event log yet? start > run > type in eventvwr

It's worth checking, if you are lucky it could just be a driver that needs reinstalled.

By the way my 2TB HDD has two partitions:

I may be wrong but since Windows 7 is installed on one partition and the majority of my files are on the second, if I repair/reinstall Windows 7 on the first partition, my files on the other drive shouldn't be touched?

Correct. Also, you haven't shown us the full list of processes.

You should also organize the proceses list by CPU - anything hogging the CPU should be near/at the top. Have you installed anything/uninstalled anything prior to the performance issues?

I uninstalled Avast & AVG, then installed Microsoft Essentials & Kaspersky. I also did the "Wipe" with CCleaner which deleted the free space on the hard drive (files which have been deleted).

I also installed Tuneup 2011, I did all of this in one go pretty much then the problems started.

I've uninstalled Kaspersky/Microsoft Essentials but it seems to be as slow.
