Well I still have a ip35 pro and as im skint have ordered a wolfdale to replace my q6600 which was a nice little overclocker.. at the min i have 2 sticks of 2gig dominator ram...

My questions is that if i stick some ddr3 in it say 2 x 4gig sticks would this be worth my while ? as i will want to overclock the wolfdale to at least 4.2..

thanx for any advice given

yeah can get 8gb ofr dd3 for around 50quid , be silly not to be pick it up beofre the prices raise again. then you carrry it to you next build!

The physical cutouts along the connectors are in a different place for DDR2 and DDR3 purely to avoid someone trying to put the wrong RAM into the slot. They're not physically compatible and the boards that support both DDR2 and DDR3 have two different sets of slots to get around this. Yours supports only DDR2, my friend, if it's the one I linked to earlier.

Hi there,

May I ask why you "upgraded" from a 65nm quad core CPU to a 45nm dual core CPU? If you are playing modern games or doing CPU heavy tasks then the Q6600 will be faster (especially if it overclocks well).

As stu mentions, the ip35 board only supports DDR2, which is a bit costly these days. However, may I ask what you will be needing more that 4GB for?

well my theory was that 64 bit systems use more than 3.2gb so should be worth while ?? .. the dual core will clock to at least 4.2 ghz and the quad will only do 3.2ghz ... there for as im only bothered about gaming on this i thought it wouldn't hurt for now ... as im getting a 6950 card to replace my 4870...

its not perfect but seems a cheap upgrade for the time being

If you have a 64 bit operating system you can use all 4GB of the RAM you have now which is plenty for 95% of games.
