Hi ocuk hive mind

I'm after a little bit of advise please

At home i have the following setup for my TV/PS3/Xbox 360/Media Centre PC

Logitech Z-5500's connected to my TV via digital optical cable, then all said devices to my TV via HMDI cables to carry picture and audio.

This has been fine until i played around with my media centre the other day and changed from HDMI audio to what i think is 6 channel direct audio (orange black and green cables) The sound quality seemed to be a lot better although a little quieter. The soundmax settings (software) on the media centre allow me to change all audio effects etc to desired settings when using 6 channel direct but don't allow me to change the settings when using HDMI audio.

Now im a complete sound noob and i though that HDMI audio would be better? but the 6 channel (although quieter) seems to be of better quality.

Does that sound correct?

just in case its needed the gfx card I'm using is an HIS HD 4670 IceQ 1GB
and the sound is on board (its a dell inspiron 530

you're tv will be messing with the audio, thats probably why 6 channel direct sounds better. tbh tv's in general arent know for the quality of their audio outputs

understood. So its possible the TV has a preamp or something in it?

Its odd because why offer digital out from the TV if its pants? hmmm
