Little bit of help pls

Just made a comp for a mate, installed windows all good and everything.

Downloaded some programs such as Xfire and Ventrilo, they install fine.

I try to installed Bit Defender and Firefox and steam and it wont let me install them it crashes in the extracting stage with some weird errors like cabinet not right.

Can install some .exe's not others

Its seems to be where the download doesnt have a publisher set..

Sounds like borked RAM or maybe you've got a stupidly stupidly low pagefile and that's doing it?

Even though it's fixed I'd run memtest and check to see if your pagefile hasn't reduced itself to 0.
