Hi

Currently have my e6850 @ 3.7ghz (415 x 9). It pass's orthos tests fine.

The minute I put it to 425 x 9, I get this error in orthos

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4"

Could anyone tell me wether this is linked to the cpu or ram?

Here are some cpu-z screenies if you need extra information..(Ignore the fact it says 415 x 6, for some reason the multi goes from 9 to 6 when im not using anything even though ive disabled speed step.)

Also currently have ram timings, volts and cpu volts set to auto in the bios.

Thanks for any help.

Have you disabled EiST too?

Since you're running PC5400 it's quite possible that you have hit your memory's wall. But it's also possible that you need a touch more vcore.

But I would take the voltages off auto so you can control what's happening.

I've disabled "CPU Thermal Monitor 2" & "CPU EIST Function"

EIST is intel speed step anyway.

Ok I'll take the volts off auto and see if a vcore adjustment will help.

I have changed the volts to manual and found i needed around 1.4 for 3.7ghz.

Im now trying 1.45 at 3.8ghz.

One thing I have noticed since changing the volts from "auto" to "manual" is when windows desktop loads, the network connection takes almost a minute to start, where as it was only a couple of seconds before, I've checkd msconfig and nothing new is in the startup, all seems a little odd to me. Is this a normal occurance?

Also whats the max volts I can put through this cpu?

Ok I've tried up to 1.55 vcore and +0.2 ram volts

and it still fails the orthos after only a minute at 423 x 9 (3.8ghz)

So im guessing I have hit the memory max speed, im quite annoyed that I listened to people saying "save your money and get pc5300" when I should have gone at least pc6400 to give me more headroom with the overclock.

Ive set voltage control back to normal now and will leave it at 415 x 9 (3.7ghz)

why limit yourself? sticka divider on the memory if you think that's what's wrong and see if you can push it further

I have the memory multi as the lowest (2) so memory is at around 830 instead of 667. Cant lower the divider any more

That's a heck of an overclock for PC5300. But you should have been recommended PC6400. The Crucial Ballistix PC5300 is the only 667mhz memory that will keep up with a decent CPU overclock.

anyone interested in 2x2gig ocz gold ddr2 pc5400 memory modules then, that are less than a week old.

Sounds like I need to go for pc6400 or pc8500 for an easy life.

Email in trust. Or post here.
