Hey guys, I'm looking to build a Gaming Rig for around £300-£400. I have the monitor, mouse, graphics card and keyboard sorted but I would like some advise with the rest. So far I have chosen:


Motherboard
ASUS M4A88TD-M USB3 AMD 880G Motherboard

CPU

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core Processor

RAM

Corsair 4GB DDR3 RAM

Hard Drive

Seagate Barracuda 1TB

DVD Burner

ASUS DRW-24B1ST DVD Burner

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Mid Tower Case

Power Supply

Cooler Master GX Series 650W


Can anyone suggest any cheaper/cost effective parts that wont blow the budget and the cheapest place to buy them. Also can someone tell me that everything listed will fit together and is compatible. Thanks in advance chaps.
 
what GPU is it, and do you need the OS and what will this pc be mainly used for?

My grandparents are getting me 64bit Windows 7 so that's no problem, the GPU is a Zotac gts250 1GB 256bit DDR3 which I know is not the best but It will be quickly upgraded this christmas. Will be mainly a Starcraft/MMO PC but will look to start playing BF3 and other FPS's when I start upgrading
 
 
Thanks for the reply but would it be possible to change the CPU you listed to the one I chose? Its still a quad core and has good reviews
 
For gaming, this I3 is better than the Phenom II X4, and you could step it up a bit if you dropped the ram to 4gb, or got a cheaper PSU etc

Could I swap that Ram for a Corsair RAM DIMM DDR3 1333MHz/ PC3-10600 4GB (1x4GB) PC and the PSU for a Coolermaster GX-Series 750W PSU?

Would that still give me the performance and be compatible?
 
you want 2x2gb RAM to work in dual channel, as Sandybridge performs better with this.
you could use the gx750w but its not the best, the BeQuiet is 80+gold which means you will save more energy which cuts down the cost in the electricity bill.
 
with 4gb RAM, and a slightly cheaper PSU you can get the below, you dont need a 750w PSU for a single GPU system, its a waste. My current rig before overclocking only pulls in 980w from teh wall (assuming 80% efficiency that means 784w PSU load) when running furmark and prime95.

If you dont need the newer features of the P67 chipset, then get an H61 board to save you some money. If you can stretch the budget by £40 then get an i5 2500k and an after market cooler and clock it up :D

Because yours had 500gb less HDD space, I was assuming he wanted a TB for a reason, and he was wanting to get a 750w psu, so I was sticking to the 600w ones since that means he can power any single gpu system with an OC and not worry about power, as well as some dual gpu systems, where as the 530 BeQuiet cuts out a few options, was only saying £40 to also include an aftermarket cooler, its only actually £20 more (so £16 more than yours) without a cooler :D
