I'm sure i'm not the only one but everyday i'm tackling spiders making a home in my wing mirrors of my car.

What do people do/use to stop spiders making webs and creating a home for themselves?

I have tried home remedies like lemon juice but that either fails or is not a good solution for long term. They seem to like it more if you QD your car after a wash too.

Yeah they are very persistent.. even more annoying literally after car has been washed.. you spend hours cleaning the car only for the bugger to come in and graffiti over it all

Put a conker in there. Spiders don’t like them right
i was thinking of doing that.. or if i remember they don't like cedar.. so if i take a bunch behind each wing mirror to see what happens.

I was also thinking of seeping conkers/cedar in peppermint oil for a few hours and putting them in the wing mirrors, that way it should act liek a diffuser and won't dry out as quick.. but these are all experiments i don't know if it will work.

PS.. i don't turn my mirrors, so it shouldn't be an issue.. especially hate it when the mirrors dip downwards when you reverse.. find it offputting

Thread made me laugh. The focus lives next to a hedge so I've just embraced the wing mirror spiders.

It is alarming the occasion when they get in the car though. As for whatever reason the sunvisor is the place to be. Hiding then dropping down when driving.
same.. Theres a hedge directly beside where i park on the driveway and my bins are behind the car so i often see spiders creating webs between the bins and the car boot.

Even though i try and get rid of the webs on the wing mirrors, i see a random web inside the car closest to the mirror so its either hiding somewhere inside where the vents are or scurrying back to the wing mirror

Its not just me then!

I park in the middle of a double driveway with plenty of an 'air gap' and still have a spider in each wing mirror with large webs each morning..

The Mrs' Tesla is parked literally within inches of some tall bushes which are covered in spider webs and zero spiders in the wing mirrors..

I can only put it down to the Spiders being a bit vein and prefer hanging out in an NA 5.0 v8 over one of those namby pamby EVs..

I've tried a leaf blower directed right at the gap in the housing, a bit of a wash out with a hose pipe but the little buggers are quite intelligent and know exactly where to hang out to avoid eviction..

Edit, Google AI search results indicate somethings worth trying:
  • Citrus: Spiders dislike the smell of citrus, so you can try rubbing lemon peels around the windows and doors of your car, or make a spray with water, one teaspoon of dish soap, and lemon oil. Spray the mixture on the side mirrors and doors.
  • Spider traps: You can try using spider traps to catch the spiders.
  • Spider repellant spray: Spray the repellant into any hiding places where spiders might be hiding.
  • Chlorine spider bombs: If other methods fail, you can set off a chlorine spider bomb inside your car to kill any spiders.
the citrus one sounds good, and as a bonus I'll have to have a few G&Ts with ice and a slice to use up the rest of the lemon!
tried most of these.. but too much of a faff monitoring over an hourly/daily period to what affec they have, though i do know that its not a good long term solution, unless you plan to do one of these as a daily task
