Little iTunes issue

Now I'm happy to use iTunes. An iPod is the only piece of Apple hardware I own and the two things seem to go hand in hand.

Right, to the slight issue.
I have approx. 25GB of music in my library - some downloaded, much of it from CD's I own.
I own a 16GB iPod Nano - I think we can see where this is going.

Obviously I cannot sync my whole music library to the iPod, 25GB doesn't go into 16GB.
So I changed the sync settings so that only "ticked" items would sync. I then unticked everything and kept on "ticking" albums until I had approx. 16GB which I then sync to the iPod.
All appears well.

And now to the issue - only around 2/3 of my music library is now ticked - the 2/3 that are sync to my iPod.
Lets say I go into iTunes and play track 1 from an album that isn't ticked, once it has finished playing Track 1 it skips to the next "ticked" track and plays that.
Basically I cannot simply play Track 1 of an unticked album and iTunes play the whole album.
So, the fix is of course to tick every track again, fine for playing through iTunes but of course the iPod gets upset as it thinks I'm trying to sync 25GB onto a 16GB iPod.

Now to be honest I don't change the tracks on my iPod that much, however if I want to change I have to go through the hassle of unticking everything and manually ticking the albums I want to sync.

Long post - hope it makes sense.
If it does, anyone have a solution for this at all?

I personally set-up playlists, then select different playlists to sync to different devices.

That way songs that aren't in the playlists that you've specified wont be synchronised and wont hog room, make it a lot easier to select individual tracks / remove them.

I found this with my trusty iPod Nano 3G, its only 8Gb and I have close to 120Gb of music!..

I used to use iTunes but (apart from its little idiosyncrasies with Windows) it never synced my selected playlists or even individual music correctly!!..

So as a long term Winamp user I discovered the mlipod.dll plugin (I know Winamp has native iPod control, but its not as good as the plugin!)... Works with all iPods/Phones/Touches up to the 3GS (think a new version for the 4 and 4S are coming very soon!!)..

Works like a dream, never had any problems with my playlists or music I select to pop over to my iPod.

Only thing it won't do is software updates for the pod itself!.. but my 3G is soooo old I don't think there are any updates newer than 2 years ago! :D

There are various other programs out there (Musicmonkey... etc..) which other people will probly soon be over to recommend!.. but thats the solution I use and I've never turned back!! :)

Easy one.....

Re-tick all of your library, unticking it makes itunes completely ignore it.
Attach ipod, on the left it will appear, click it to go to the ipod screen, then at the top there will be a tab for music. Click the music tab, untick "sync all music".
That will create some boxes lower down so you can choose specific playlists, albums, artists (so on and so fourth)

Job done.

Alternatively, leave everything ticked and itunes will automatically shave off some tracks then when you re-sync, it will re-shuffle the songs you have synced.

As above set up playlists and sync the playlists you want on the go. I have various playlists on mine, gym, car, relaxing etc

You can also set up a smart playlist. Ask it to have a maximum size of, say 8Gb, and it'll randomly fill it with stuff each time you sync. Then you have 8Gb left for other playlists.
