Open a terminal window and type
lspci
and it'll list your hardware. Paste it here for our perusal.

I assume you've already run the restricted drivers program in System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers, as it's the usual way of installing proprietary WLAN card drivers.

I've never understood proprietary drivers.

The companies almost always make all the money out of the hardware. Yea the drivers cost money to make. But what are they afraid of, someone burning a copy of a WiFi module? :D

from a quick google it should be a Intel 3945 802.11a/g which should work out of the box as intel releases source code.
unless someone changed the mini card.

If you haven't already done so you need to enable the restricted drivers, which can be found from the System, Admin menu. I also have a 3945abg card in my laptop and have not had any problems using it in Ubuntu.

I also have this laptop and I have had 8.04 and 8.10 on it and every thing worked out of the box on both.

One thing I would check is that wifi is enabled in the bios, you can do this by tapping f2 on the startup, I didn't have this problem on the mx1330, however I did on another asus laptop.
