Little Quote Thing in the Begining of a Book

Whats it called? :confused:

I know I know it, but I just cant remember it for the life of me and its driving me crazy. Plus I need it for an essay I'm writting, and I'm not finished until I find out what its called. So I'm desperatly in need of your help.

arg! i'm starting to doubt my self now. I'm starting to think its a word starting with an e aswell now, but no idea of the word. I'll stick with foreword for now, but i've almost convinced myself that its the wrong word now.

If it helps its just a tiny quote about two lines long by Pliny the Younger, before the prologue. This is litterally driving me insane, havent gotten any work done yet because of it
