ok so i'm looking to build a temperature sensor and display to go in a 5.25" or 3.5" bay (depending on display).

i will be using a PIC based circuit, to be exact a PICAXE-18 combined with a DS18B20 (temperature sensor). i'm looking to display the exact temp (no decimals for now) and have a fan output when a certain temperature threshold is met.

for display i'm considering a 16x2 LCD alphanumeric display or a double 7 seg with 4020B driver chips.

i'm working on a circuit design currently for the 7 seg one, think i've almost got it but i'd like some help on the one for the LCD. going to be having an input of between 5 and 6V using a relay to enable an input of 9V for the fan.

any advice or guidance would be great. i'll try post my initial circuit design up.

and yes, yes i know i could buy one but just doing this for the fun and it's a cheap project.

i've no idea anything about that, plus i already have the serial to circuit cable and a basic knowledge of PICAXE. it's just handier, i'm not even talking about a gradual increase in fan speed, maybe like 3 settings; off, low high?

EDIT: plus i can nab those components from school ;)
