Afternoon all,

Just wondering if anybody's got experience with these little tinkers?
Looking for a bit of info on reliability really & also the difference between S / GS & GLS specs.

I'm mainly interested in the 1.0 muchos cheapo spec.
I'm seeing a few about from '99/'00 with 60-80k on the clock knocking on the door of £2-3k.

Cheers for any help!

Best way for specs etc is Parkers.

http://parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/derivative.aspx?manu=&model_id=920

Select the model you want to look at, then click the 'Options & Spec' tab. Then you can view all the things it came with and which were optional.

My mum use to have a 1.0 Yaris for 3 years, think it was the GLS with AC. I seem to remember not that many models came with AC really. But one thing was that nothing went wrong on the car for the 3 years of ownership, much better then the 206 she has now. My brother said how the1.0 isnt a bad engine really thinking about its size.

I seem to remember the controls were very light in it, which is one thing my mum looks for in a car.

i learnt do drive in a yaris 1.0 T2

it wasnt anything special, but felt reasonably well built and the dash was cool

i loved the driving position (but i drive a 206 now so i would :p) steering was light too, only thing i didnt like was a flat spot on the throttle which made stalling easy :p

engine was 68bhp and felt fairly strong considering its size

Very fun to drive. I had a rental 1 litre T2 when I wrote my bike off. It was very fun to drive!

It was in fact, really really easy to drive. I thrashed the poor thing within an inch of its life round twisties in all weather. It came with 500 miles on it and went away with nearly 2000 on it. I'd had it like 2 weeks.

It loved to stop as much as it loved to go. Really nice brakes on it. It was pretty fast too. It would see off my mates 1.4 golfs and 1.2 Puntos on the twisties. I could park up faster than them too.

The interior isn't that exciting I found it quite annoying and the digital speedo was a bit oddly positioned with some weird tunnel to it.

The missus had a 51 plate 1.0 GS before we moved out here.

Build quality was rock solid and performance wasn't too bad. Fuel economy was good - high 40's MPH from mainly urban driving. The few times we did take it on longer drives we were getting mid-50's.

Only real issues were ride and handling - neither were great but by no means terrible - and the somewhat tight rear space.

Overall a great little car.

It might not be relevant on a car of the age you are looking at, but IMHO Toyota dealers are the best in the business.

Something your not telling us fella, this going to be a MM5 supprise car with a turbo hayabusa engine in :p or simply something to keep the miles down on your clio?

Cheers for the help people!

Sadly it's no MM4 (unless I've missed one!?!) suprise, it's my little bro's choice of first car, insurance swinging the choice of engine.
Anyways, after seeing a couple we plumped for a GLS spec all in black, looks fairly tidy with plenty of toys, well, loads more than my Cup!
H'official pickup is Mon/Tue's, i'll try & snap a few pics.

I know it's only built for town driving, but my word the suspension looks delicate! Pretty good how they tip the scales under 900kg, although I was disapointed to find that it doesnt ride on ickle 13's. Still with less than 70horses, fingers crossed he wont get into any trouble despite regular trips across Snakepass! :)

Good cars, the Yaris. Epic reliability. I guess he's a new driver? I firmly believe new drivers shouldn't have powerful cars. Although with the VVTI it should have enough poke. Jobs a goodun :D

I've got a Yaris. The diesel, unbelievable MPG, tax has gone down to £40 per year and insurance is cheap. It has never missed a beat in the two years I've had it.

£40 a year for Diesel Tax! Schwing!!!

Anyways, here's a few pic's of it:

I'm genuinely quite impressed by it, certainly a great alternative to the usual Fezza, Clio & 106's. Quite a funky gimmicky digital dash thingy as well, now to see what it can do! ;)

Looks fine to me and it is just a small car, not sure if the central position would bug me or not. Obviously that saves them production costs overall.

Looks good and its good to see you went the diesel route, did it cost much more to do that ?

I had my mum's 1.0 GS for a while before I got my new car. I loved it! Really easy to drive. Mum got the new Yaris, but I prefer the old one  Maybe it's just sentimental :p
