I've tried Suse 10.2 but it needs 512mb of ram to run off the live cd. Is there any other distros that with run from cd/dvd with 256mb of ram?

(Hope that makes sense. Very new to Linux...)

Are you looking to try one with the intention of a later install, or just use it as a Live CD to dabble with?

I've inherited my dads old laptop but I don't want to wipe it until I'm sure he's backd-up all the relevant files from it.

As a result I thought a live cd would be the best option as I could try out a few distro's without having to format and/or lose any data until I know it's safe to do so.
