Is there anywhere that a newbie like myself can ask simple Linux related questions, such as a IRC chan or something? I ask because it does seem a bit silly if i continue to make a post or thread each time i run into problems, and being new to Linux i expect to continue to encounter a few of them (i hoped i could figure some out myself, turns out i may need more help then expected).

Sure, just about everything in Linux has an IRC channel.
Since you're using Ubuntu you should start with their IRC channel at #ubuntu at irc.freenode.net.
