Live Messenger issues

Hi all my first post is a problem I need help in solving. The other day everything in my house went pop - some kind of power issue. As a result I had to reboot my router and reinstall a graphics card driver which went corrupt.

I thought everything was good until yesterday evening when my MSN contacts informed me that instead of my contact name being displayed, it showed my email address, and also when they tried to send me a message, sometimes they couldn't do so.

So i thought ok I'll reinstall Windows Live Messenger. Totally removed the old one and reinstalled. It was ok for a bit and then the problem reoccurred. Checked my router settings and nothing had changed ports wise.

I close Windows Live Messenger and used Meebo online. Now this is a web based solution but even that has the same issue. Does this mean it's a network issue bearing in mind I have a btinternet email address and not a hotmail one? Or are there some files in Windows which if corrupt would mean both program and web based solutions won't work?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,

I had the same problem with live messenger last night an dI use a btinternet email address.

Although I hadnt reinstalled anything - it was OK before.

I think your situation maybe coincidence as mine was playing up as well.

Will try tonight and see if its the same!

Ok mate. Thanks. I think it might be the network for btinternet because I tried a different email account for a couple of hours and it seemed ok. Let me know.

It's been happening to me and a few friends as well, repairing MSN vai the installer seems to have sorted it so far and judging by my google results it's pretty widespread and possibly the result of an attack on MS.

If you experience similar problems with MSN using two or more different MSN clients then its going to be the MSN network in someway. Its always good to have another MSN client like Miranda/Pidgin/Trillian etc or even just to try the Web Messenger system so if you have a problem you can see if its MSN or your PC/MSN client.
