Live messenger - Speed up downloads?

Hey, after going on days out with my friends and wanting to exchange our pictures, especially some of them being girls who aren't too good with computers, it's easier just to send the pics through MSN.
However, it seems that despite both parties being on >1mb ADSL, the downloads rarely surpass dial up speeds..

Just wondering if there's a mod or something that enables you to send files at full speed, as waiting ages for a 300kb image isn't particularly fun, especially only being able to download three at once, with loads of idle bandwidth.

Wont the problem be the upload speeds and not the download speeds that are holding you back?

I don't think you can speed up messenger so you may be better of looking at hosting the images somewhere.

Probably due to one of you (or both) having NAT routers with no uPnP. MSN will send at full speed if it can do, but without the required ports open it has to bounce it off the MSN servers, which are capped at 128kbps (~10kB/s), but if they're busy you won't even get that.

What ports need to be open for wlm?

Probably the same as MSN. Using uPnP means it can open its own ports when it needs (it's technically insecure, but a home network is hardly a corporate network...)

Upload speed for the person sending the file will be holding them back won't it?

If upnp opens them automatically then why do we need to use port forwarding for lots of programs?

The program has to support uPnP. Two I know of are MSN Messenger & Azureus - there are others, but most don't.

that'll be the one :/

I'll try to enable the ports, although I think I may have reached the limit.

edit: Just deleted all the ports, added the msn ones and added cod2. I'll see if something doesn't work
