I move into my first own house in January and want to start planning the layout. Kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms are easy. My problem is the living room. It's small.

To scale except for double doors. They are patio doors with thin horizontal windows either side of the double doors.
Do you have suggestions for the layout and contents? The short wall on the right hand side is next to a downstairs cupboard and is approximately 246cm across.
I've purposefully not told you what my current idea is and other suggestions I've had in order to keep things creative. I do however have a dark brown TV stand 15.8" by 47.3" across that my flat screen will sit on.
The idea will be to keep the room looking as big as possible so I've been told to keep light colours. Suggestions on furniture styles/colours would be appreciated too (or blogs/websites that are good for planning this stuff).
