living room to basement ?

I may be sharing a (Virgin 10mb) line with a familly member soon.

main line is obviously in the living room being an old house i imagine a thick concrete floor to be trouble ??

what would be best to get the interwebs in the basment ?
im mainly gaming...

A Home plug...

or a wireless router & dongle ?

id say a home plug would be a good idea as ive alaways found wireless to be ok but not perfect for gaming.

If its your premises...
A drill, some cat5 and some sticky stuff are your friend.

I've had mixed experiences with wireless, also the recent powerline attempt didnt go as planned

ive had better luck with wireless than power plugs.

but wired > everything anytime of the day.

but i presume a wireless usb dongle on an extension stuck to the roof should give good signal strength, if your router has two antenna you could rotate the one sideways (signal comes out the sides of the antenna) so you are blasting signal down to the floor.

if its permenent it will be worth the hard work with getting a cable downthere somehow

heh wish i could have it wired...
i just know it will lag / spike etc via wirless

if you wanted something cheep + cheetful i would go same road i went ( very happy with it)

i gained about 5ms ping in online games (compaird to wired) so its not too bad, thats at full bars of signal, so if your signal is a little poor'er then you may gain abitmore MS
