LLC On i5 8600k OC?

Hello everyone!

Can anyone tell me if i really need to mess with LLC in my OC'd 8600k 4.9GHZ 1.29V if i dont get any instability on the system? I mean, even after 1 hour of Prime95 Stress Test, the system didnt failed and i spent whole night playing SOTTR on 4.9ghz all time also without any issues.

I ask this cause when i did the P95 test, in CPU-Z the CPU VOLTAGE was showing 1.168V. I don't understand this to be honest, if the VCORE goes down to 1.168V, shouldnt the system fail immediately? 1.168V on 4.9GHZ is like impossible to run.

I changed the LLC to Turbo on BIOS and when i did a stress test, the temp went to 84C in like 30 seconds after i started the test, so i changed it back to Auto.
 
when placing a load on to a overclocked cpu the voltage will always drop so its a good idea to increase llc to compinsate for the drop, depending how far you go, you'll need to increase llc

I had a 8600k and overclocking it to 5ghz my voltage was 1.28v and llc auto under load my vcore voltage would drop as low as 1.24v (couple of bsod) so i headed back into the bios and increased llc from auto to 5, that sorted the vdroop and under load it was around 1.27v (temps at this speed were in the high 60's) (cinebench)

then i delidded the cpu and managed 5.3ghz at 1.425v but at this speed llc was increased to the max (either 7-8 i think) and the vdroop wasnt bad around 1.418v under load and the temps due to the delid were around 78 degrees under load (cinebench)

your temps shouldn't be bad and prime 95 does put a **** tone of load on the cpu so if the cpu passed then anything else you run will be fine and the temps will be lower, but only testing will confirm this

But dont you think it is a little weird that the vdrop in my case went down to 1.168V? From 1.290V to 1.168V and the 6 cores running at 4.9GHZ and no BSOD for 1 hour. This is the part i really can't understand

Yesterday, i tried 5GHZ OC and i set vcore on Bios to also 1.290V and i did a P95 test and in less than a minute, i had a bsod. So 5ghz with 1.290V isnt stable. But 4.9GHZ with 1.168V is running OK? How is that actually?
 
the vdroop is purly down the how much load your applying the the cpu after you've overclocked, a cpu at 4.9ghz needs a certain voltage to run, if the cpu is hit with a 100% for a long time the cpu needs a specific voltage, normaly at stock speed the vdroop isn't a problem as the cpu will run at stock or turbo speeds with in intel spec, as soon as you start pushing the cpu over those specs the cpu will need a specific voltage.
if the cpu isn't being loaded up to 100% on all cores the vdroop wont be as bad sure it will drop but it wont drop down as low as 1.168, and pretty much everything you'd run will pass.

So, in this case what would you do? Cause when i changed LLC to Turbo on bios, i did a P95 test (Verson 26.6) and the temps went to 84c in less than 30 seconds with 4.9GHZ and 1.290V, so i immediately stopped the test. For me, that temps are way too high even for stress test.
Would you let LLC on Turbo and then downclock CPU?
 
what board do you have, i used as asus maximus her x z370 and that had a llc setting of auto to 7 to choose from?

I have a Gigabyte Aorus Ultra Gaming Z370, with a Cryorig H5 Universal cooler.
On Bios the LLC has some options: Turbo, High, Extreme, Performance, Power Saving. I guess that's all the options
 
i'm going to be honest i have no experence with gigabyte boards, but have you tried high or performance modes see what they do?

the voltage you have set at 1.29v is plenty at 4.9ghz so not a lot here will need to be changed but do have a play around with llc and select the best mode to ease the vdroop at 100% load

edit: ive just looked online and with your board and a 8700k at 5ghz, the llc was set to turbo and if instability was present they set the llc to extreme, both thease settings will increase vrm temps so make sure you have airtflow around this area as none will be very bad long term

To be honest man, i'll just leave it this way.
When gaming the CPU goes to 4900MHZ and stays there with a good temp and my game running flawlessly. I honestly dont see a reason to change LLC to fix vdrops if it's not causing instability on my system. CPU just runs at 4.9GHZ when its needed without any issues.

Problem is that actually even after reading a lot of OC Stuff on the internet i just cant understand a lot of things, i think Overclocking isnt for me so i'll leave it as how it is. If someday i get a BSOD with 4.9Ghz 1.29V with LLC on Auto, then ill go try to understand it better again xD
