Last night I was woken at about 3am by thunder. I finally woke up enough to realise that thunder is caused by lightning I decided to turn off and unplug my PC/TFT etc. Just in time - there was a really close flash and all the power went off. So I went back to bed....

Woke up this morning to realise that whilst my PC was fine my TV had been killed.

It is a 6 year old 32" widescreen CRT Philips - nothing really special just a bog standard 50Hz flatscreen CRT TV.

Here is the good bit - I am assuming that this is covered by my contantes policy which means that this is the best chance for a long time to persuade my wife that a HD-TFT TV is the way forwards - but which one !

I've got up to about £1000 to spend (any more and my wife not be happy).

So which one ? The Toshiba 32WL66 seems to get good reviews, but are there better deals ?

We also have a 9 month old daughter so an enclosed stand for the DVD/HD recorder would be a good idea !

Thing is we dont get any freeview signal so there seems little point in paying the extra for the integrated tuner.

Will the insurance company simply give us a cheque or will they deliver a new TV ?

They have said that they will need to send around someone to make sure that it is "beyond economic repair".

Once that has been done they will cough up a cheque for what a brand new 32" CRT flatscren TV would cost (approx £290).

So just waiting for the go/no go on the new TV.....

Looks like the 32" Tosh is next on the list hopefully.
