Hi there,

what advantages are there to LLU. Price maybe speed, tweakability (instant resyncs etc).

but do u get better stability in that, if a fibre is cut, will both standard customers and LLU customers go offline too?

disadvantage i guess is the contracts and changing if unhappy...

In my case, LLU meant I could sign up for BE broadband, now sitting at 24,500 kbps and paying £18 per month (+BT line rental) :D

It generally means that the broadband market in your area becomes more competetive and the non-BT companies can offer you very interesting packages because they don't have to buy all their product from BT.

By far the biggest advantage of having LLU is that you dont have to use BTs hardware in the exchange. :)

Agreed which means the ISP has much more control over the line, it usually means you end up with a higher sync rate/throughput as its not using ip profiling like BT's kit does.

Strictly speaking, BT Wholesale are LLUers too.

That aside, the main difference is cost; most of the other LLUers don't have the same level of coverage that BT Wholesale do, and have a much newer network (i.e. don't use ATM). Stability depends on the provider in question - some use BT for backhaul, and it's not the first time a broken fibre's buggered O2/Be's network...

interesting.. i dont think i can get o2/be where i am... i am 2.2-2.4 miles from the exchange as the crow flies. so atm i sync at 350-420 which is decent. but i am fairly attracted by the fact i can tweak the SNR and get instant profile update and as u mention not run on BT hardware.

however the 1 yr contract does put me off as atm ADSL24 (on entanet) have a monthly contract. anyone on entanet LLU?

Have a look and this and you can see all the service available from your exchange (and the ones planning to be LLU'd soon).

I was with with ADSL24 on a month by month contract (albeit 1 month) and couldnt fault them or the service .... then they offered the LLU deal (its through BE) and I switched over ... best move I made .... as mentioned NO more Ip Profiling and unlimited downloads :D

Oh and the contract is now 1year +3 months notice.

I used to be with ADSL24 myself on ADSL, but switched to BE when BT sorted out some issues with my exchange.. One thing I dont get is; why pay all that extra money to be with ADSL24? Why not go with BE directly? There is Quidco cash back available, much cheaper line rental for the same product, 3 months free offers, etc? Is it just for the customer service?

Simple answer is ... when I contacted Be and O2 they refused to take me on saying I was to far from exchange ... so I tried ADSL24 and as mentioned cant fault them. As for customer service .... I couldnt say enough about them .... when I changed over onto the LLU package I had a fault (at my end with router) ... Tech rang me at home for 1hr 20mins until problem was solved ... this was when the guy was OFF work ! :D

Through Bt's kit with adsl24;

4500kbps connection and 30gig peak limit

Through o2 with adsl24;

19500kbps unlimited!

Nuff said.

AH THANK YOU!!

i did not know ADSL24's LLU was through BE... both BE and O2 dont wanna touch me with a barge pole :( i scrub up good as well...

ill be going ADSL24 LLU ASAP then. currently getting 420kbps sync @ 2.52km as the crow flies on the ADSL24 page. but yeah ill love the instant profile switches..

Hi Noto

Im over 4km as crow flies and Ive been informed that actual wire length is almost 9km ... Im on Home Premium package and connect at almost 1.5mb with upload of 700 - 800 kbps .... this wont sound great to some BUT coming from almost 512kbps and a throttled connection during peak times with Orange its superb for me... and you should do a lot better !
