Local 2 player gaming> Online?

I understand that comparing the two is difficult as they are both different animals but great moments can be had playing games when 2 people are sat next to each other instead of the faceless internet.

I enjoy MMO games with loads of people.

But say a friend comes over I would also like to be able to play 2 player on the same machine. It's the main reason I buy consoles tbh.

The main the reason I buy consoles local multilayer ten times better than online.

local is good, dare i say it consoles do it the best for ease. have a few mates round and play.

there's also the likes of lan, me and a mate occasionally play a bit of minecraft on lan, with the big rig doing server and me and him downstairs on laptops. its good fun and great for our situation where adventure maps with lots of combat mean his lag [60k internet] makes it unplayable.

Mate just brings their PC rig round and we log in to MMO/co-op/whatever.
Nothing better than being able to look over your shoulder at your dozy wingman's screen and point out EXACTLY where the flippin' thing he's supposed to be shooting is!!!
