Hi.

Finally got Sky Broadband installed today and have the wireless up and running on 2 Windows 7 machines, 2 xboxs, an Android and an iPod Touch but can I get the mrs Vista laptop online, can I heck!

I know her wireless works as I've previously connected to a wifi hotspot from my phone but for some reason it's detecting our Sky router as an Unidentified Public network.

I've tried manually entering IP's, gateway, subnet masks and DNS settings and still no luck, I've tried some command prompt 'netsh' stuff, disabling UAC, disabling IPv6 but nothing seems to work.

It's really starting to bug me, I have thought about phoning Sky but I won't get anything other than have you turned it off and on again from their script readers.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem connecting a mate's Vista laptop to our Sky Broadband wifi. Our wifi was working as other devices e.g. Win7 netbook, Apple TV, iPod Touch could connect just fine.

The Vista laptop had connected ok to his network at his house (he was with Orange broadband) so it seems to be a specific issue with the Sky router & Vista O/S combo.

Vista?

Seriously?

Change the encryption to WEP.

EDIT: 192.168.0.1 - admin/sky

Nothing wrong with Vista, it's just not as streamlined as 7.

Click 'Customise' in the Network and Sharing Centre and set it to Private, not Public.

Also, reset the wireless adaptor settings all to Auto.

Check in IE.. Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings, untick all boxes

Thanks for the advice folks. Changing the encryption to wep seems to be the only way to get the Vista laptop on, not ideal but at least we've got everything online now!

Cheers
