I have finally decided on my car of choice to replace the ZX, and should hopefully be finishing the deal off this weekend. It'll be a Black '95-reg rev3 MR2 GT T-Bar with 80k on the clock. Everything is in pretty much mint condition, except the alloys.

Although they havent been curbed, they are suffering from corrosion in quite a severe way and ruin the look of the car. I havent got the time to do a sand-down and repair myself so I'm looking for recommendations within the hampshire region.

Any ideas what it'll probably cost? Im guessing something in the region of £50 a corner.

Watch for a *my new car* thread soon :D

TIA

Lap-Tab in Birmingham quoted me £60 a corner for my gunmetal grey 18"s.

I should think a "normal" colour and a smaller wheel size should be easily do-able for £50 a corner.

Did they take delivery of the whole car, or did you take the alloys to them? A few places I've seen online charge a hell of a lot more for taking the whole car rather than just the wheels, which seems odd

I got a quote from Lap-Tap a few weeks ago on a set of 15" wheels.

They quotes £45 a corner, inc tyre removal and re-fitting (I'd book in and drive down, having it done while I hung around).

Thats shot blast and powder coating, and filling in blemishes etc.

I'm actually tempted, I'm doing it DIY at the moment but I don't think the finish will last long. Powder coating is much harder wearing...

They dont seem to go as far south as hampshire :( Sent them an enquiry though

Coz i need some work done I phoned them up and its £40 per wheel - which involves taking the wheel off and re-laquer. Proper job. Chipsaway quoted £50 per wheel and dont even take the wheel off to do it

Got "Bruce" coming around on monday to do the job :D Really not gonna wanna sell my baby after getting her a pedicure :(

But have a 330i Sport to look forward to when I do :D

I'd have serious doubts about the quality of the work for places that allow you to just bring the car in and wait, and definitely about places that don't even take the wheel off!

How is the lacquer supposed to cure if it's done in a non-clean room environment?

If you're gonna be spending £50+ a corner you might as well make sure you get it right once... you don't wanna find the lacquer starting to bubble or peer a month outside of the 1 year warranty (assuming it even has one).

lacquer is not powder coating either i dont think. its a simple rehash of what you have already!

i have quotes for 16" rims for powdercoat, refurb etc for about £45 a wheel. but they take the wheels off u an need a week!

time to borrow some spare wheels out there

I am liking the place I have booked more and more, £40 per wheel 18" alloys, they take the wheel off, file down, fill, respray and relaquer all on the spot.

The place I was quoted for, Lap Tap, that would mean hanging around for the day pretty much or sending them the wheels.

Luckily with my wheels I just have bare wheels so I could sit there and watch a few DVD's or go into Birmingham for the day...
