Hi,

Having finally got a decent PC (thanks OCUK!) my lad (12) wants to humiliate me in a variety of games... I've tried Fortnite, World of Tanks, War Thunder but these involve online play with others and I'm rubbish anyway...

I'm looking for something we can play over the local network either as a team, or both in the same game against an AI and each other? I used to waste hours on Quake Arena just fragging the AI opposition so something similar but where we are both involved would be good. Equally, a racing game with similar criteria would be good. Genre flexible. SF. WW2. Modern.

They don't have to be the absolute latest games as I'll have to buy two copies....

Any suggestions appreciated...

Cheers

Borderlands is not sweary, just a bit of toilet humour here and there. Asses this and that but certainly no f, c or b words. :D

In terms of co-op, there's loads, but off the top of my head... Killing Floor (1 or 2), Left for Dead 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Payday 2. Ghost Recon Wildlands, The Division 2 and Insurgency Sandstorm. Even Counter-Strike: Global Offensive vs bots I guess.

Also, check-out 7 Days to Die as well. Not exactly a shooter, but could be fun if you fancy co-op base building, resource gathering and lots of zombies. I think you'd need to run your own local server, but it's easy enough to do.

I guess watch some game-play videos of them and decide if they are appropriate for your lad or not.

Screencheat is a local MP but played split-screen, though I assume you can play on 2 PCs but shown split-screen as you need to see the opponents POV to know where they are (models are invisible).
It's not got a lot of longevity in it but it's a bit of fun.

GTFO?

Great challenge and very polished for an early access game.

Warning though: GTFO is doing dynamic content (like timed events and episodes in other games). You have a set time to complete a rundown before it's gone forever and replaced with the next one. A frankly abhorrent practice that is becoming more popular it seems.

Serious Sam games? They're a blast to go through with others and the difficulty is very scalable. The violence is very cartoony and there's only mild cursing, so probably still be OK for your son.

You've also got the Halo games in the master chief collection, co-op on all the campaigns plus horde modes against the ai, even 1v1 deathmatch would be pretty fun.

Will look at Serious Sam.

Forgot about Halo. He has that on XBox and I think can download to PC. Would prob mean me buying as well. Hadn't realised there were more options for it. We've only played some of the campaign split screen on XBox.

portal 2 co-op is great

That looks an interesting one. And not bad price.

Am currently downloading Halo MCC for PC as the Game Pass is on for £1 for first month so will let us try a few options out.

I may need to invest in a headset though as we are at either end of the house!
