Hiya

Just made myself some nice Faggots and Peas.

None of this crappy supermarket crap. Real home-faggots made by the local butcher.

When I say local I mean the butcher from Wolverhampton - where I'm originally from. I moved about 30 miles up the road to Stafford.

I thought I would share this pointless/useless info.

But I was wondering what localised dishes do other people love/hate.

Crap commericalised attempt at faggots.

Oh yeah another local black country speciality is grey peas and bacon around early winter. Great warming food, ideal when on route to/from the boozer.

My dear mum, used to make them in my younger years, when I still lived in my parents home.

Great to get home from work, jump in the shower, get ready for public house and grab a large plastic disposable cup and a throw away plastic spoon and head off out to the local for a few jars with the boys. Munching on the peas and bacon in the icy cold was ace.

Some of us London folk like pie 'n' mash and jellied eels. :)

Get your Ayrten Senna out of your back-burner that you managed to Half-Inch, to pay for your jellied eels. You half-inched the Ayrten Senna cos your on the Adrian Mole, due to having no job.

If you wasn't on the Adrian Mole, then you could afford a Ruby Murray :)

WTF?
Did ya work down coal mine?

Proper faggots are great.

Most people hate them as they have never tried them or can't get past the offal.
The rest hate them as they have tried the awful commercial stuff.

TBH I can't think of any local dishes.

This could be a brilliant thread as there are loads of local dishes most people don't know about. Hairy Bikers cookbook, where they went around England showed some of the stuff.

The only thing I know of from here is Bakewell puddings/tarts which are pretty nice :).

I must say working in Stoke on Trent now enlightened me to nasty-none delightful taste of oat cakes.

I had never tried an oak cake prior to working in Stoke. I must say I wasn't impressed either.
