Is there any way of finding out how fast your local exchange actually is? i'm interested as i really don't think i am getting what i am supposed to be getting.

i'm on pipex 2mb service

How do you mean?
The speed your connection syncs at doesn't depend on the exchange but on your line, including your internal wiring. If you're seeing congestion, there's no real way to tell (bar trying the BT Speedtest with the speedtest login, if it still works) - the congestion data is typically weeks old.

what i wanna know is if theres a website that will list all the telephone exchanges and what they are capable of like ADSL line speeds

it's a long shot lol

I'm pretty sure all exchanges are MaxDSL enabled now. The biggest factor in the line speeds you get is the distance from the exchange. This tool shows how far you are from it amongst other things.

What this doesn't take into account though is the ACTUAL phone line distance, as they don't take a direct route to the exchange. So this is only a very rough indication of distance.

Every exchange, bar the ones that were activated under the Exchange Activate scheme, can do IPStream Max.
The BT Wholesale checker will take a guess at what you'll get, or you could plug your line stats into either the dslzone guestimator, or Andrew from Thinkbroadband's (see FAQ) for a slightly more accurate estimate.
