I've got a problem on my pc at work, on random days at about 9am my internet dies. I'm still connected to the server where all my documents are stored, can still receive emails and can still use Sage, but the internet and msn times out.

I've told the IT guys about this as it's been going on for a while now but they are clueless and don't seem in any hurry to try and fix it, which is a bit annoying when there are times I need the internet for work purposes.

Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening?

I've done the usual, turned the machine off and on again numerous times during the day and re-installed the drivers for the network port on my pc. Is there anything else I can try?

i had the same problem with a cheap router, internet would go but i could still access server no problems, have you tried to repair the connection, mine would always fail to renew the ip address when i tried that, got a new router and never had the problem again

Tried the repair option, but windows says it cannot repair it. Had a search online about this and it appears that a lot of people have had the same problem as me. Tried turning off ipv6, that didn't work, turned it back on, didn't work. Disabled and re-enabled the adapter, that didn't work.

I'm about ready to throw the damn machine out of the window :(

1) install all the latest updates and drivers

if no fix

2) change the mac address of the card in the drive page if you can

if no fix

3) set your current address EXCLUDED from the DHCP range so you get a different one (maybe you have the same address as another device)

then if no fix

4) get an ip excluded from the dhcp range, set you adapter settings manually...

then if no fix

5) stick in a new network card

then if no fix

6) reinstall windows

maybe swap 4 and 5 if the reinstall is jsut windows + office

also change the network carble...

Just got back from having a quick smoke and it appears that the IT guy has fixed this. No idea what he has done though as he wasn't here when I walked in the office.

Thanks for the help.

bet he did a hard reset of the router/dhpc server, that's what always sorted mine!
