Hey, I just thought I'd pimp one of my best friends talent. He's only been giging under a year and has played across North Wales, mostly in pubs and clubs nothing big yet but here's hoping. This is his myspace with 4 tracks on it, they have all been recorded in a local hotel that the guy playing bass owns/runs, he has done all his own harmonies and lead parts and played bass on 2 I think. Just after opinions, he's been writing his own material for roughly the same amount of time he has been gigging. Mostly covers but has been adding a lot of his own stuff into his sets recently.

Cheers guys.

I really don't think he's meant to sing acoustic. His voice and acoustic doesn't go. He sounds more like he's meant to be a band with heavier rock riffs.

When I first heard his voice, he reminded me of busted :/
Not for me i'm afraid.

Her has got a brilliant punk-rock voice...dont normally have these types of voices with acoustics but i think its worked here.

I might as well pimp my friends acoustic duo, the only song that is up is one that was recorded in a classroom, still its very good!
Clicky

He'll only be local for some of you and he's not young but I'll pimp my acoustic-clad friend, Andy! :)

12-string and slide.

Mr Parry has a pretty strong voice, good range!

My pal is trying to add singing to his act - says he sounds like Johnny Cash down a well. :D

The acoustic market is saturated with half-decent musicians

Thanks for that useful comment, I nor he really care what the 'market' is like he plays what he wants. I was just looking for feedback on HIM and HIS abilities.

Cheers for the other comments guys will make sure he reads this.

A sarcastic cheers to the others for their links :p jk

Mojo - Terrible in my opinion, it does not fit at all and he sounds strained.

The other 3 - Better, but I still don't think his voice doesn't fit, it is too pointed. He doesn't sound as strained but it fits a bit better. Granted he has a good voice, but it doesn't naturally fit with the music like that should and it sounds like he is putting it on at times. (if this is true or not I can't say)

:)

I don't know where these 'punk voice' and 'singing with heavier rock riffs' comes in. He's got quite a soft voice and not 'rock' in the slightest. I wish I'd had that talent one year into playing/writing and gigging. What he lacks is proper recording and proper production. I'm positive with the right producer we could hear some really good stuff from him.

I think I would agree with that, everything needs working on, but a great deal of potential is there.

Edit: I don't mean to say potential, I mean to say talent which is there but is not being tapped at best efficency. :p

I'll make sure to tell him this. He would really appreciate your opinion as much as I do you posting, it's good to know what someone think when they have been gigging for years and obviously have an ear for music!

As I said in the opening post the tracks have been recorded and mixed in a hotel locally on a PC by him and the bassist. Thanks for the other comments, as for Mojo it was one of the first songs he wrote and many people believe it is his strongest.

Also he is getting agitated by his 'promoter' who rarely goes to his gigs and take a percentage of whatever he is paid just by making a phone call, he is known by many places that have acoustic nights and bands on so he has suggested just ringing them and doing it on his own, anyone got ideas on how to get his name around abit more?

Clearbluesky, he's been playing for over 5 years and gigging/writing for a year nearly.

Incubus sounding vocal with a sort of american accent to it, not bad though quite liked the tracks.

Wow good call on the Incubus sound!

Not bad at all, agree with dmpoole, can't hear the rock / punk sound either...

Thats about the most non punk and singing to a heavier riff voice I've heard.
Agree that with a bit of producing of the songs, he could be made to sound well above average. With a lot of people you can tell that no matter how much producing is done they will still be rubbish.

if that was in the shops to buy i'd buy it!

its kinda mellow yet not, its something i could put on in the background and do work to, which isnt an insult as some people might think. its something that can be turned down and just set an atmosphere, or turned up and listened to fully.

impressed :)
