localised lag

ok i dont appear to have any such problems with lag as far as ping is concerned as my ping for example is 34-45 on unreal tournament 2004 but even though thats low i seem to be getting lag in game which seems local and not server based or isp based. does any one have any ideas

im using the netgear 5 port fast ethernet switch from ocuk. and the netgear router RP614v2 (the one without built in switch) and the cables are normal CAT5 cables

on my pc its a built in network adapter. mobo is a MSI K8N Neo

i cant see much else info wise.

um would it help if i used a pci ethernet adaptor?

Might be worth trying a different network adapter for starters.

worth checking out hard drive activity drivers

i play wolfenstein enemy territory and found on my setup having either xfire ingame chat enabled or the ati taskbar icon caused me to feel 'lag' ran far smoother with both disabled

Good point, although he said it's fine if he play's on a local listen server, so I would be inclined to think it's something in the network.

neither are enabled on my pc i only have a few things in taskbar.
Pstart, Mrouter(for n-gage QD), blutooth, Nokia PC Suite, NOd32, Spyware Guard, Logmein, Volume control, Safetly remove hardware tool, ultramon and winfast wizard

It's either ADSL or you're using an NTL STB.

cant try without router. im not the only one that uses it. my parents pc uses it too.

and yeah its a set top box. im not a netowrk expert so i aint a clue what the difference is hehe

So? Easy way to find out if it's the router or NTL.
