Locating a users hostname with just the username

Hi guys,

I need to do exactly as the title states, I need to connect to a users machine but I do not know the hostname/IP all I have is the username. Is there a way I can find the hostname via command prompt?

Not possible that way, but you can always ask them to go to one of those 'what's my ip' sites.

ring the user ask them the machine name?

(you never stated you cannot cnotact the user)

Are you using an Active Directory solution? The user profile might show the last accessed device name.

Otherwise, call user and ask them to "Start > Run > CMD > ipconfig" and be done with it.

PSTools, PSLoggedon seems to do this? Searches the network for a username and returns the Hostname.

Cant contact them, they are away from the machine all week, but it has been left on.

I got a way round it by using LanDesk, cheers
