I ordered Rise of Flight and Lock On Platinum and they arrived.

Flamming Cliff that comes with Lock On Platinum is absolutely fabulous! The hills and mountains are so stereo. By the way I am running my new GTX 560 Ti OC with Q6600 @ 3.69GHz. I get very very6 good frame rates smooth like fluid!
Above all the graphics is stunning and vibrant I can see all the scenery are so 3D!

It's a good deal only US$ 19 I am so happy!

Indeed. And I believe we will get cross play with DCS A10 soon enough, not a big deal for me though since lock on already includes a a10 and I dont own dcs a10. Oh well.
 
Always been tempted to try a combat flight sim, but places that actually sell the platinum package seem few and far between.

Also a bit weary of any game where you have to buy the manual seperately :p

DCS:-Black shark is currently online compatible with Lock On: FC2/Platinum. However, Black shark is getting a free upgrade to DCS:- A-10 Warthog standard soon. Lock On is not, and it won't be compatible with Warthog or the new Black Shark.

A possible FC3 upgrade for Lock On (to DCS:- A-10 standard) has been muted, but not confirmed, and if it does happen it will be a payware addon to the original Lock ON. The reason for this convoluted addon process is that UBI still own the rights to the Lock ON name.

I get very decent frame rates never below 30, I am so happy!

I now want to buy a cooling solution so that I can bring the temperature of the Q6600 down a bit, it's very hot under load, around 76!!

By the way, I have 2 discs, one is LOCKON vanilla and another is flaming cliff, so platinum is in fact flaming cliff right? So what comes with the original Flaming Cliff then?

It's interesting to talk about the A-10 experience. Do you still remember the legacy Silent Thunder A-10 Tank Killer http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Thunder-Pc/dp/B0002QNDGA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1312162967&sr=8-2 ?

The A-10 in LOCKON is sort of like a simplified version, just talking about the cockpit. But the flight model is also less hardcore.

Personally I prefer clickable buttons like those in Falcon 4, F/A-18, F-15, Longbow and some others. It's more like you are really hands-on to those MFD avionics. More real.

I have seen DCS A-10C Warthog. I think I'm going to love it.

But then in the integrated battle field where you then have Su-27 as well...how you going to survive if you are a A-10C pilot because it only carries 1 to 2 AIM-9 missiles. I just wonder...

I heard it is capable of FAC (Forward Air Control), is that what you mean?

Also, does it have guided cannon guns?

I watched a video clip a while ago, it shows that something like a gun caret which tracks and locks on ground targets as they are hit, all from the HUD in front of the pilot seat.
 
No the gun is the Gau8, and its a monster, they literally built the plane around the gun. Its a huge gatling gun firing 30mm rounds. Its a beast. A search on youtube would show you. It has advanced anti missile systems and avionics as far as im aware. its not as easy to hit as you might think.

BTW, can you tell me how do I change the style of the forum? I have difficulties in reading white words, they hurt my eyes.
 
I might have to get Lockon again, i seem to of misplaced it when we moved. I have DCS:A10 but the graphics are awful to be honest (im talking about the blurry mess that are the ground textures) and it just takes away from the whole immersion factor.

A 64-bit OS allows for Higher res textures in Warthog - but don't expect Lock On to be better than Warthog.
