Hi all and thank you for looking at my thread

Okay so i thought it would be a good idea to upgrade my htpc so it can play games on it and bought my self the following (still all at stock)

E4500

Asus Rampage formula x48

OCZ Platnum pc6400

500gb SATA Seagate

This all went together with what i already had which is

Hiper Type R 730w modular

2x200gb WD and a 250gb WD SATA

xpert vision 8600gt 512mb soon to be a HD4870

X-fi xtreme music

So my probelms consist

1. Random SoD (Screch of Death) from my X-fi when i copy files But i can watch film's and listen to music for hours

2. Total system freeze when moving files but can watch 1080p films play borderlands and run intel burn test with out a problem

3. Random restarts and when moving files but can watch 1080p films play borderlands and run intel burn test with out a problem

I was wondering if any one else had these problems as its driving my up the wall as i need to move my films collections to my new harddrive and it just keeps crashing really starting to lose my patience with it and ive ran out off ideas

The things ive tried in all diffrent combinations

1. took my X-fi out also swaped the pci slot re instaled drivers and still crashes with no driver's and no card

2.unpluged the new HD

3.tried every set of settings in the bios i can think off

ive been working on this all weekend since friday and still getting no where iam pulling my hair out and dont know what to do :( any help would be much loved as its about to go flying right out my window :o

Thanks in advance Mr. May

it could be a memory problem.

when i was copying files from one folder to another or from an external hdd it would blue screen or freeze.

one of the mem sticks was faulty

okay left one stick in slot 4 was working fine for about half an hour copied a good part off them but SoD came along and ruined my day

EDIT: just put the other stick in slot 1 and and had new sort off crash it froze and was just repeating a little blip off the music i had playing

Yes test the memory first by running memtest, download memtest, burn it to an iso, then boot to that disc, and run it on each stick in turn, it'll find memory errors.

If thats clear report back and more suggestions will come.

okay ill have to do this tomorrow night as i need to get my head down for hospital appointment and exam tomorrow realyy am fed up with this giant hunk of crap :(
