Hi All

Have a preclocked system from oc thats been ok for a couple of years. Q6600 @ 3.3, IP35 PRO, 4Gb Ram and a 5770. Since the arrival of BF3 have been getting disconnects (nothing unusual there by the sounds of it) but also getting complete system lock up in Windows and have to restart.

Checking the temps (coretemp) the cpu is getting up to ~75C. Is this a little excessive?

Cheers,
Cheesy.

That seems a bit on the high side for the CPU (Around the max it should go in stress tests). Have you cleaned up the inside of the case, seeing as its a few years old? Could be as much as dust blocking vents etc.

When you say 'lock up' Do you mean it freezes the whole PC or do you get a BSOD? If the case is clean inside, try turning down the overclock a little and then playing BF3 and test :)

Ensured all the fans are clear and will give it a hoover tonight (compressed air), hopefully this will make her a little more happy. It's locking up rather than BSOD. It's odd it's happening in Windows after a restart but this could be residual high temps after stressing with BF.

Maybe it's all too much for the poor girl.

Thanks for your help.

Cheesy.

Could also try reseating the cooler too, and put on some new TIM (If you haven't changed it in awhile) this could help lower temps too.

Thanks for the help Deception. Turns out it was poor cleaning. The pc looked ok but after getting a torch in there, I spotted a layer of dust between the fan and the heatsink on my artic freezer. The fan was putting in a good effort but to no avail. Cleaned it off and am now ~55C when gaming.

She lives on.

Its amazing what a little dust can do in terms of temps! Damn thing gets everywhere :p
