And the answer is insufficient, as I have stated..
Already addressed that see below
You've already been given an answer. You don't like it, don't buy it. That is what people do. That's the rules of the game whether you like it or not. you can moan all you want but that isn't going to change anything. .

I think what's really interesting here is just how much people don't like hearing dissent, even when it is absolutely morally justified,

Please show me who in this thread doesn't like hearing dissent as you have worded. Or are you attrbuting motives to people based on your personnal beliefs?

You had 2 arguments
1. The covid-19 argument, which i see as a weak argument because last time i checked computer parts are not necessary for fighting COVID-19.
2. Jacking up prices and then passing them off as deals. Yeah it's not right but once again the previous answer still stands.
You don't like it, don't buy it. .

Did i miss anything?

I will continue to call out spiv behaviour, and you can continue to defend it and to try and deflect attention away from the real issue.

Prove that statement, show me where I defended their pricing tactics.

No, the only reason prices are set the way they are is because OCUK is price-gouging a captive stay at home audience at a time of national crisis, taking advantage of a situation, instead of making a contribution. Consumers aren't setting pricing, that's a nonsense argument in this case.

The old "supply and demand" trope, sorry but that's way to simplistic a system to describe dynamic modern pricing, especially price gouging on a scale like this, 4 year old EOL cards priced higher than 1 year old cards which are substantially better...that's not supply and demand, that's gouging the uninformed.
Lol, you really are twisting things to suit your agenda. A captive audience?? Please, we are talking about computer hardware, nothing more. You make it sound like some kind of drug that people are addicted to and cannot help but buy no matter what the cost.

You need to get a reality check.

You know exactly what is meant by a captive audience so don't play dumb, unless of course you are this dumb.

I understand the reality of the situation perfectly, spiv profiteering at a time of national crisis, sadly most have tiotally lost their moral compass to capitalism and now makes excuses for it's worst excesses rather than deal with REALITY.

In fairness some people are addicted and MUST have the fastest most expensive GPUs but that's a different discussion.

The guy has a point and he's right to call them out on it if that's what he wants to do. The prices are a joke. And not real deals. Everyone responding with "if you don't like don't buy" is just in denial. Obviously if we don't like the prices we won'tbuy but does that mean we cant express our opinion on the crap deals posted here?

If they don't want feedback on these"deals" they can close the forum or not post them in the first place.

I just don't get why he's being trashed for saying what most people already know. And just because it's common or happens all the time doesn't mean we should all shrug our shoulders and applaud their efforts.

Did he kick your dog or something? No one is forcing you or anyone else to buy anything. Not happy with the price of a particular product? Buy it elsewhere.

Some stuff to me is over priced too, but at the same time the GPU deals they had on meant that OCUK were the cheapest place by far for the card I wanted, so I bought one.

It's clearly petty jealousy where Darujhistan is concerned, otherwise why bother mentioning the fact the guy has a Ferrari? It's clearly insinuating that he's some unscrupulous bandit ripping everyone off and profiting from it handsomely. If that were true and OCUK offered no value, they wouldn't be selling anything, Gibbo wouldn't have a Ferrari and you wouldn't be here posting about (or anything for that matter).

Don't misconstrue that this is solely at Gibbo, I'm aiming it anybody who does this sort of thing, and I do call people and businesses out, both digitally and in real life, that is my right as a human being, if I believe something is unjust or immoral I call it out, whether I upset people or not.

I agree comparing necessity goods like food and water to luxury goods is not the best way to bring the point across, but the point in itself is just. A better example would be a TV retailer having 10 TV's in stock for £1000 each, then it gets to the last 2 in stock and they then just up the price to £1500. Now they were making a profit on the TV @ £1000, so just sell all 10 for £1000, you're still making profit, don't get greedy and add more just because there are only 2 left.

And also as alluded to earlier in this thread, this is happening on essential goods like PPE for hospitals and care homes being charged 6 times the price for PPE items. In my opinion the people who have bumped the price up (wherever they sit in the supply chain) should be lined up and shot. It's costing peoples their life. It doesn't suddenly cost more to make the PPE, the raw materials are still there just like before, the factories that turn the raw materials into the PPE are still there, there are no physically added costs, it's just people along that supply chain are profiteering.

And just accepting it because "that's just the way it is/works" is defeatist we need to challenge the systems all the time, just because a system has been like that for eons doesn't mean it's correct or can't be changed.

He's being trashed for linking price gouging at a computer hobbyist store to a global viral pandemic.
I work for the NHS, I have friends who are on the front line, working long shifts with COVID-19 patients. I caught Covid-19 whilst working on setting up the Dragon's Heart hospital and am still off work.
He's talking about a stupid price on a GPU and linking it to all of this that is going on as if people have to buy them because they are at home due to Covid-19...

Needs a realty check. Just ignore the prices and move on.

Im waiting for post covid19, there will probably be a ressesion and pc parts will be last on the list of spending and there should be cheap parts for everyone.

The part you're clearly not understanding is that those £1000 TVs would need stock to be replaced at a higher cost, thus the cost to you would be even more... so basically you'll moan either way, but this is how it works. Not really sure why this is difficult to grasp.

I'm on about EOL stuff, 1080Ti's found sitting on a shelf forgotten about, there won't be any more restocking because they aren't any to get more of.

And I genuinely don't know what you mean about "those tvs would need stock to be replaced at a higher cost" do you mean the next batch of the same TV? (if it were a current line) If so, then fine if the next batch cost more to buy in then fine price them higher, but if the 10 TV's you currently have for £1000 sell all 10 for £1000, don't bump the price on the last 2.

Oh right, you're moaning about obsolete stock that you otherwise have no intention of buying?

Anyone buying a 1080ti new is nuts, the 2070s is faster on modern titles and significantly cheaper.

Yes I "moaned" because i saw it as an injustice and rightly pointed it out

The thread is called lockdown deals...............

Not my point. Nobody is any more compelled to buy these items just because they are stuck at home.
It was your point,
He's being trashed for linking price gouging at a computer hobbyist store to a global viral pandemic.

again the name of thread is lockdown deals. unless the lockdown is for something else? The link was already made.

Almost comical how some people will defend their brand even when they are blatantly ripping them off.
There is nothing wrong with people calling out companys on their bs practises.
I used to buy everything from ocuk then I seen how much they spanked their customers in the mining boom, way way more than any other retailer. And they are now at it again.

Its Bad enough but to then pretend to its loyal customers on their fourm that they are "deals" ......come on now. All while posting about record sales.
To which people then defend, gives me a chuckle.

yet you're on their forums having a moan? ocuk is often the cheapest for what ever component I am buying so why would I shop somewhere else?
