Hello Everyone,

I have recently been experiencing some problems with my Focus which has started locking me in while driving it :S . I hear a clicking sound and then all of a sudden the car locks itself :S

The car is a Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 Zetec (If it makes a differences).

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Does it sound like an electrical fault? Sounds costly if so

Thanks,

Michael

Is it intermittent, or does it do it every time you use the car?

Has it always done it?

Auto locking can be set up on the Focus - it will lock the doors the first time you pull away after starting up and go above 5mph.

Its intermittent, i did a 70 Mile round trip on Friday without a problem yet on Saturday i drove a few miles home and it did it twice.

No, first time was about 2 Weeks ago and it was ok for about a week, now its done it a few times over the weekend. I have had the car for over 18 Months and two weeks ago was the first time.

Interesting, its happened at 30mph so i would have thought it should have kicked in before this if it was turned on?

How would i turn it on / off?

Thanks,

Michael

I set this up on mine when I had it, I'll paste the instructions:

How To Activate The Auto Lock Facility On The Focus.

1. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine

2. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it (Repeat this operation three times)

3. Turn off the ignition

4. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it (Repeat this operation three times)

5. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine
A beep should be heard

6. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle and then pull the handle slightly to reopen again
A final beep should be heard

Basically, once you set this up the doors will lock automatically more or less as soon as the car starts rolling, nominally @ 7kph. You'll still be able to open the doors by pulling the interior handle, but they won't be able to be opened from the outside. If you stop and open the door though they won't relock automatically unless you turn off the engine and restart - basically, it works once per journey, after that you have to do it manually. And in the event of an accident, the airbag system will unlock the doors automatically, so you don't need to worry about that aspect.

Mine locks all the doors at 10mph. If you stop and open a door then it will lock it again when you reach 10mph. The doors are unlocked when the key is removed from the ignition.

Damp?

My Polo's central locking used to have a mind of it's own during and after rain.

At what point do these auto-locking cars auto-unlock?
I'm assuming that should they detect collision they automatically unlock or not?
Or is it once road speed reaches zero? Or is it purely based on ignition key removal?
If they don't then it would certainly be the first "feature" I would be disabling as soon as I got the vehicle.
If I'm in a nasty crash I want people to be able to get me out of a vehicle as quickly as possible and not worry about having to get through locks.

I was under the impression all safety features in a car MUST be linked - ie) an airbag goes off, the engine turns off, fuel pump cuts out, doors unlock, etc.

I thought thats what the Ncap safety rating included anyway?
