I recently reinstalled windows, but cant get into my music directory on my 2nd drive, i think i had some sharing options and maybe password on the folder, but i'm not sure. My 2nd drive was untouched by the reinstalling of windows

I can see the files are still there in ubuntu, but windows won't let me and doesnt give a size or file number in properties

Is there anything i can do

Can you get the properties for the whole folder and modify the rights, you may have to be an administrator and take ownership of the file.

you need to do the following

tools >> options >> folder options >> enable advanced file sharing

then right click on the folder you've lost access to and click on permissions

you then need to add your new user account into those permissions so you can get at it. Make sure the user your adding is set as an administrator. To save you re doing the permissions, just create a new folder somewhere or copy them to your new my documents folder so all the permissions are set correctly for the new machine.

That didnt seem to work, in admin mode, i cant get access to the folder and cant change permissions,

also i dont have tools>options>folder options. just tools>folder options, and there is no option for advanced sharing j,ust simple sharing turned off

Anyone any ideas

Before we go further - you didn't encrypt these files under your old Windows installation did you?
This is purely a "I've reinstalled Windows and now I cannot access some files" situation and not a "I encrypted some files under my old Windows installation and now after I've reinstalled Windows I've got not access" isn't it?

ERD Commander can read from the protected folders. It Windows Explorer built in so you can simply copy and paste the files over. You'll need a bit torrent client to download the file, then burn it to a CD with somthing like Nero
