Locked out of steam

I'm locked out of steam at the moment and I was wondering if anyone knew how I could fix this.

I installed steamguard on my phone a while back. I flashed a new rom onto it and forgot to set it up again. End result no active steamguard.

I'm trying to login to my account and I can't remember my password.

I can go through the recovery steps and get an activation code sent to my phone.

I then get the option to change my password (but I need to enter my steamguard code). I also have the option to remove steamguard (but it asks me for my password).

There is also a third option to remove my email address, but I can't see that helping.

Don't you get Steam guard recovery keys when you set it up?

Steamguard needed my password to do this.

I had a flash of inspiration and tried what I thought might be my password. It worked and I was able to remove steamguard and login.

It does seem if you can't remember your password and you can't login to steamguard you are in trouble.
