I'm really quite annoyed, I brought a laptop from the states with a built in WWAN card. I never tried to use it whilst over there but now I'm back in the UK I thought I'd get it working so picked up a '3' sim card. Only now I find that the card in my computer is locked to the Cingular (AT&T) phone network. There was no mention of any lock when I brought the computer, I've even re-read over the details and there is still no mention.
So far I've contacted HP, they told me that they have no idea what the MEP code would be and that I need to call AT&T. To my surprise AT&T eventually said that they would give me the code as I was not in the US. This was of course after about 20mins of repeatedly trying to explain that it was not a phone, and that I had never had an account with them and this was why they had no record of me. They took my IMEI# but I've just received an email from them saying they have no record of this device or what the unlock code would be!!!
I've been searching the internet for crack/hacks etc but no luck. I've emailed a fair few people on ebay who say they can unlock AT&T phones but so far no positive replies.
So, has anyone got any pointers/advice for anything else I could try? The card in question is the HP hs2300 HSPDA. It's inside an 8510p.
This will be my last HP computer, they charged me an extra $150 for the card but made no mention it was locked, which renders it totally useless outside the US. I can't believe either of the main companies is able to fix it, even for a fee!
