Hi all, my pc has developed a problem, it keeps locking up under load, mostly when playing demanding games like crysis etc..when the pc is shut down there is a faint squealing noise coming from the psu? Can anyone shed some light on this? It was fine yesterday, and the problem has only started today?
The system is not overclocked, and the psu is only a few weeks old.
Spec;
AMD Phenom 2, x4 955
XFX GeForce 8200 AMD DDR2 MB
XFX 750W Black edition PSU
Kingston Hyperx 4gb Ram
XFX GTS 250 GPU
Maxtor 500gb 7200rpm hdd

Thanks in advance ;)

Can you test another PSU in your system as it would seem this is the problem. The squealing noise could be one of the capacitors beginning to fail.

The squealing noise makes me think GFX card, which I think would also be either capacitors or something to do with it's power. Perhaps try underclocking it and see what happens.

Cheers for the help, have got another psu to try, will give that a shot, no harm in resetting the cmos while i'm at it..
Cheers ben.

Got a replacement, and it still squealed, so I sent it back again, and got a new one today, will fit it later..
tried a spare psu and the squeal stopped but still locked up once? any ideas?

Just fitted another xfx replacement psu, and it still squeaks slightly, I gathered this is normal now, as every replacement ive had does this..
And it still locks up no matter which psu I use, only seems to do it while playing games, any suggestions..

cpu is 45-50 under load, max temp I have logged cpu at is 53c, so very cool..
the gpu was about 70c max which I logged, so I took it apart and applied silver thermal paste, now it gets to 65c max..
my gpu has always ran hot from new, just the stock xfx cooler.

My OCZ squeals under load, so did the RMA replacement, but the US forums say they have fixed it, so hoping i will get another one...My enermax Rev 850Watt does not squeal...
