Locking Wheel Nut wont move!!!!

Trying to get the crappy locking nut off so I can do the other side brakes but it the tool just wont lock on to the nut! What Can I do!!? I've tried just about everything, the garage says I'm gona have problems :( Please Help.

I'd remove the swearword first.

Is the locking nut key actually gripping the nut at all? If so, then you should let the nut soak in penetrating oil for a few hours at least.
 
sorry missed that in my blind rage.

It's gripping it but very slightly, I can't get enough direct pressure on it for any useful pressure!
 
Have you tried putting the key on the end of a socket and extention and hammering it on.(Making sure its lined up properly)

This might give a better contact and break any rust in the threads and collar of the wheel stud.
 
you got a tap set? if so
get a drill drill into the locking wheel nut with a 3mm drill about 40mm deep, then tap to m4.
drill through locking wheel tool with a circa 4.5mm drill so now bolt the tool to the wheel nut, and undo.
justa quick idea i had might work :)
actually nvm your going to have problems getting a drill into the wheel :(
but i would advise you remove the other 3 wheel nuts before you do anythign majourly drastic, just incase you bugger the tool.
only other way i can think off if itreally wont move. remove the whoel hub assembly with the whel stil lon it and go to a local engineering firm and get them to drill it out from behind, so not to damage the wheel.

I've seen tyre fitters weld something onto the nut in the past, and then just replace the locking nuts. But from the 2nd picture it doesn't look like theres enough room for that?

Does the bolt look sheared?
 
Malchy I really hope it doesn't have rto come to that :(

It's the tool that's the problem I think. I got another one off ok but they arn't torqued as high as this one.

The tool looks like it's taken a beating.
 
Right discovered these are 'McGuard' and i'm hearing horror stories! :eek: Anyone had experiences? So much for my trouble free disc conversion :(
 
I got mine off after I lost the removal key/nut by hammering a socket that was slightly smaller than the diameter of the nut on with a club hammer, tighten the other 3 nuts to a higher torque than normal and you should be able to get it off. Buy a cheap socket to use as it will damage it.
 
can't do that with this type I don't think, the outside of the bolt just spins around plus theres nothing for a socket to grab on to :(
 
I had a garage use a locking nut removal tool once when i had a mini.

They just used an airgun, and it tightened on, then they reversed it and it popped off. (It was also one with a revolving outer edge)
 
Theres a special tool (cant find the link atm, but i'll keep looking), whereby you need to drill a hole in to the stud and then wind this reverse thread self taping long bolt into it. It will grip eventually, then keep turning to undo the bolt!

I had to do one about 3 years ago when a numpty KwickFit bloke whippy gunned my locking nuts! Tool!!

Won't one of these struggle to drill into a McGard nut though? As aren't they more resistant to drilling than steel etc?
 
I never tried one of these, don't know if they are even any good and I suspect you would not have room to get it in but...........

Its called a Gator grip socket

You might have a job drilling the stud it if its hardened steel.

Only other thing I can think of would be to get a piece of pipe that fits snuggly over the locking stud and weld in lugs to catch the stud, hole through the pipe to fit a bar through and try that.

This was part of the sales pitch I read on it,

I may be wrong, but i really doubt it! Its done a few things for me without problems, but anything as heavy duty as this would really suprise me!
