I’ve bought a used bike off eBay, and whilst it’s £100 I’d rather it wasn’t robbed if parked up outside a shop/cafe.

What are the recommended locks? Don’t want to spend a fortune so assume the Kryponite ones are no go, but any recommended ranges that’ll put off most thieves? Can I get something for £30?

It’s a Carerra Subway so hopefully not too stealable but appreciate they’ll take anything!

I got my Son a Kryptonite Keeper 12 for when he bikes to School - mounts to the frame, reasonably inexpensive but still Sold Secure Silver Rated.

Can't say how good it is against a determined thief, but a couple of other bikes were taken that had lesser locks (cable locks only etc), so obviously was a bit of a deterrent.

Pair it with a cheap cable lock and it should be enough to put off most people.

Edit:
It looks like https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kryptolok-Standard-U-Lock-Kryptoflex-Cable/dp/B07FY1PDDY is an updated version that's Sold Secure Gold Rated (2 Locking bolts rather than 1) for not much more, and comes with a cable flex e.g. for looping through your front wheel.

I was thinking this one:
I looked at kryponite ones the other night and they were £80+ so didn’t think it was viable. Will this be ok?

I just linked that one in my Ninja edit :) £5 cheaper at amazon.

It's a trade off between cost of lock / value of bike and inconvenience to yourself.
Imo no point spending £100 to secure a £100 bike - I think that one would be fine - it's a reasonable cost, "Gold Rated", and anything with better security is going to be a lot more of an inconvenience to you (in terms of size or weight - some of the stronger d-locks and chains weigh far more than you want to be carrying regularly)

Thanks @Armageus I’ll get that one! Think you’re right, don’t want to spend any more but also want to deter thieves so they target a cheaper/worse quality lock.
Doubt I’ll be locking it up many places, but doesnt take long for the bikes to be nicked.

After looking on youtube and having a fright at how useless the Kryptonite fahgettaboudit was against an angle grinder i ended up buying this beast.
£250 but they will need at least 10 mins to get through it , suprisingly its lighter that the kryptonite as well.

It's a good lock, but at £250 it costs more than some bikes!

Many years ago I bought a Kryptonite M18 New York and the You Tube reviews at the time said you needed 10 minutes with a plasma cutter but it did cost over £100. That stays at work on a metal fence with an M14 cable that I also wrap around the wheels.
I have a shop lock that cost about £30 for if I need to pop in Bargain Booze or a Chip Shop but I always keep an eye on my bike.
The other month somebody posted a picture of their stolen £3000 eBike and the thieves had cut through the crossbar leaving a 2" bit of crossbar on the ground.
I don't know why they left that bit, they could have got somebody to weld it back on and cover it with stickers or something.

Can understand why they are willing to destroy the frame as the battery and motor is probably worth having and easy enough to sell.
