Basically when I play WoW I get a lockup (can be instant or after 2 hours). WoW will lockup so I end task (or try to) it will then lock my entire system.

I've been reading about and quite a few people seem to have the issue - but I can't see a fix.

It doesn't happen in any other game.

Spec:

Q6600 @ 2800
4gb
ATI 4870X2/8.10
Gigabyte DS3P 965

Im suffering the same.

ATI 4870x2 also.

q6600 @ 3.8ghz now, as i thought it was the oc that was causing it.

Same as you, but i seem to be suffering a lot of stop 0x00000124 lockups. Only things i can find were they were caused by NVIDIA drivers, lol dont have anything nvidia related.

With the x2 can't you disable crossfire being used and use one gpu? Defeats the purpose of a x2 card I know but saves you from altering any profiles or something. :)

I dont think its a crossfire issue LeJosh,

There are posts all over the web about wow freezing for people since the 2.4.0 patch. lol weird thing is i have never had it until this 3.0.2 patch.

Have always run crossfire since having 2 3870x2's with no issues.

its not a gfx card issue as its affecting users with nvidia hardware also.

Its an odd one, just got a text from my bro in law saying he was having the same thing lastnight doing dailys on his main toon.

Weird thing though, i created a new paladin lastnight and played for 4 hours with no lock ups.

i was getting the same problem with a 4870x2 and a q6600 i recently side graded to a e8500 and a new mobo and now the problem has gone away, my old mobo was pcie 1.0 and now im on 2.0, not sure if that the difference.

im using vista also

I'm getting the same problem. 4870x2 on Vista 32 or 64 results in the same freezing. Game runs, then freezes usually within a few mins, sometimes longer. If i'm quick enough to CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the WoW process I can launch it again, otherwise Windows freezes completely.

I just installed XP 32-bit and it runs fine, albeit a bit low on the fps side (with or without Catalyst).

Looks like a driver issue, one I hope ATI solve very quickly. The recent 8.10 driver made no difference.

4870x2 lockups

Disable Windows Aero and switch to Windows Vista Basic.

Right click desktop > Personalize

Windows Color and Appearance > Open classic appearance properties for more color options

Select Windows Vista Basic > Apply

This should fix your lockups in WoW until ATI/Blizz come up with a fix.

meh, i need to play wow again, left it for a week after multiple crashes on my 4870x2 just messed up my system.

For me, after installing Rivatuner i noticed that with 8.10's and hotfixes, and maybe the ones before at completely random intervals the ati drivers were resetting fan speed down to its lowest and I'm semi sure the driver recovery or full on crashes were caused by overheating. I got smegged off with WoW and tried other games, other games seem to be fixed and in general the system is much more stable since a reinstall, installing just the latest hotfix drivers with no old drivers about and also since I took off the shroud, put a 120mm fan on and dropped the temps by half.

ANyway, just incase its an overheating issue, rivatuner and hardware monitoring, keep an eye on temps, the memory, and shader core can be quite a lot higher than the main gpu core temps that the CCC shows.

I really don't know why it was resetting either, for me I would set the fan speed in CCC to 33% ish in windows, and 45-50% in games and completely randomly, sometimes not for hours on end, it would simply drop the fan to 26% and temps skyrocketed. To be honest i still don't know if thats what actually caused the crashes. Maybe Aero + 3d game is causing it problems, I seem to have a few issues with games not always clicking the card into full 3d speeds for some reason, and sometimes it won't return to stock speeds after leaving a game.
